Cavity Fighting Herbal Lollipops
As you may know Dr. Lunn is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry, which had their annual meeting here in Vancouver this year. There were over 13 speakers in the 2-day conference with a wide variety of dental topics. One topic in particular that was very novel was about candy, yes that’s right, a candy that fights tooth decay. Research was done on Chinese herbs to see which ones effectively fought off the bacteria that cause tooth decay. The one that won the battle was licorice root.
Then they needed to find a way to deliver this substance in a palatable way to their patients, which in this case were severely disabled individuals that were unable to successfully clean their teeth in the traditional way. So they packaged it in a lolly pop sucker. Sugar free of course. Orange flavor, no taste of licorice. This also would be very helpful for those people with decreased saliva flows to help combat decay. If you are interested in more information go to www.drjohns.com.
